Christ Church in the community, both locally and worldwide
The bells of Christ Church can be heard ringing out over Colliers Wood most
Sunday mornings and on other occasions.
The parish covers Colliers Wood and some of Mitcham, although we have members
in our congregation from Merton, Morden and Tooting.
The church has built up close links with the local primary school, Singlegate,
which included children taking part in one of our Christmas services and their
support in allowing us to raise funds for the church at their summer fair.
There is a Residential Home for the elderly in Colliers Wood called
Woodlands House. We have a lively service with hymn singing and Holy
Communion there once a month. At Christmastime our handbell ringing team
go along to play carols and they enjoy that.
We invite local neighbours, businesses and schools as well as Colliers Wood
Community Choir and Merton Abbey Singers to our special Christmas Carol
Service each year. We also hold a Christingle service for children; parents
who have had their children baptised at Christ Church are invited to this service
and to other family services during the year, such as Mothering Sunday.
Our Church Hall is used by people of all ages. Activities include Karate (Wednesdays, 6–7p.m.),
Martial Arts (Mondays, 8–9p.m.) and a Multi-birth Playgroup run by
Home-Start Merton (Wednesdays, 10a.m.–1p.m.),
as well as parties for 1-year-olds to 101-year-olds. The Toddlers Group called
Colliwobbles is a
great success, and in 2008 the carers and children helped to make a
that was displayed in the local library.
We also have links to projects in South Africa.
